Psychiatry and medication management in Connecticut and Massachusetts

Straun Health & Wellness provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic clarification, medication management, and ongoing treatment monitoring. Our clinicians are grounded in evidence-based psychiatric care while remaining open to thoughtful, integrative, and innovative approaches when clinically appropriate.

Treatment is personalized and may consider emotional health, physical health, sleep, lifestyle, relationships, substance use, stress, and each patient's individual goals. Services are available for children, adolescents, and adults, although age ranges and areas of specialization vary by clinician.

What happens at your first appointment

Your first appointment is an evaluation, and it is usually the longest one you will have with us. Your clinician asks about your symptoms, your history, your sleep, your physical health, anything you are already taking, and what you want to be different.

By the end you will have a working diagnosis where one is clear, and a plan you helped shape. That plan might involve medication, therapy, changes to daily routine, a referral, or a combination. Nothing is prescribed without a conversation first about why, what to expect, and what else you could try.

An evaluation is not a promise of a particular diagnosis, a particular medication, or ongoing treatment here. If another provider or a different level of care would serve you better, we will tell you and help you find it.

What our psychiatrists treat

Our psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and physician assistant work with:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression and low mood
  • ADHD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • OCD
  • Sleep problems and insomnia
  • Substance use alongside another condition

How medication is handled here

Medication is one tool, not the whole plan. When it is the right tool, you get a clear explanation of what it does, how long it usually takes to work, what side effects to watch for, and when to check back in.

Controlled medications, including stimulants for ADHD, are prescribed only when clinically appropriate and only after a proper evaluation. We follow state and federal prescribing rules. No one can promise a specific prescription before they have met you, and any practice that does is not doing it properly.

Which insurance we accept

Straun Health & Wellness participates with several major commercial and public plans:

  • Aetna
  • Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Carelon
  • Cigna and Evernorth
  • UnitedHealthcare and Optum
  • Magellan
  • HUSKY Health and the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership

Network participation varies by clinician, by service and by where you are located, so please confirm your own coverage before your first appointment. If you are not covered, or you would rather not use insurance, self-pay is available.

Where we can treat you

We see patients by secure video in Connecticut, Massachusetts and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our office is at 243 Tresser Blvd, 17th Floor, Stamford, Connecticut.

Telehealth law follows the patient, not the practice. You need to be physically located in a state or territory where your clinician is licensed at the time of your appointment. Our intake team checks this before anything is scheduled, so you will not be booked into an appointment that cannot go ahead.
